Break the Rules Day

29th Mar 2025
Break the Rules Day 2025 - £1767.15 Raised

Today the children of St. Brigid’s P.S enjoyed a very special ‘Break the Rules’ Day to raise money for Fr Magill’s missionary work in Myanmar. Following the devastating earthquake which hit Myanmar earlier today, it seemed poignant that we continue to raise money for those people whose lives are filled with hardship and turmoil.

The day started with our new Principal (Mr Grieve) and Vice-Principal (Miss McHugh) taking on the role of playground and gate duty, greeting all pupils as they came into school.

Mr Grieve and Miss McHugh were treated to a cup of tea made by our secretary Danielle, before beginning their duties for the day. To begin, it was straight to business as Mr Grieve and Miss McHugh had an important zoom meeting with Elaine McCrystal from EA School Meals. Our new Principal and Vice-Principal discussed some important points including why the children are not allowed to have chips three days per week, why there is no custard with the iced lemon sponge and why the dessert sauces are served on three consecutive days. All very important issues which Elaine discussed with our new management team.

It was then time to count the fundraising money. Mr Grieve and Miss McHugh couldn’t believe how long it took to sort and bag the coins and notes.

At break time they joined the staff for break in the staff room where they enjoyed another cup of tea before getting straight back to work. It was time for some playground inspections and after positive feedback, Mr Grieve awarded the children with some extra play time.

After this it was back to work for Miss McHugh as she received a special phone call from her mum. Mr Grieve and Miss McHugh then visited each class to judge their crazy hairstyles. They had a meeting to discuss their choices and then began to write the certificates. This was tiring work!

Next on the agenda was lunch in the staff room. The Principal and Vice-Principal commented on the comfy chairs and loved being able to use a ‘real plate’.

When lunch was over it was time to present the certificates for the best crazy hairstyles at assembly. All of the children who chose this rule break had made such a great effort. We have some very creative parents and children in St Brigid’s.

This truly was a whole school effort and many rules were broken. Some pupils decided to ditch their uniform, others brought a cuddly toy and some even wore their bedroom slippers in the classroom!

What an incredible amount of money raised for such a tremendous cause. Mrs O’Kane and Miss McAlister are absolutely delighted with the success of this fundraiser and wish to thank everyone for their generous donations!
