Celebrating a special St. Brigid's Day
Today we had an extra special celebration of the feast of our patron Saint- Brigid. As we approach the 1500th Anniversary of her death, we recognised the significant influence that St. Brigid had on Irish life. We started the morning with the celebration of Mass in Our Lady of Mercy Church where our pupils participated in the Liturgy with great aplomb. Pupils led the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and the Offertory procession. Our Parish Priest and Trustee, Fr. E Graham, spoke in his homily of the hospitality that St. Brigid was renowned for, and how this warm welcome is echoed for anyone who visits our school.
Thanks to the hard work of all our P1 staff, our Primary 1 children told the story of St. Brigid at the end of morning Mass - well done to all these young boys and girls. It was wonderful to witness the confidence and talent of our youngest pupils.
Yesterday, every pupil in school had the opportunity to make a St. Brigid's Cross under the guidance of Master Kelly and Mrs Jean Mc Nally. We even found out that some of our younger pupils are quite expert in this ancient craft. Fr Graham blessed all the crosses during Mass so that all of our homes have this symbol of our faith.
This afternoon the pupils of P4/5 led us in an exhilarating assembly which highlighted all the traits of St. Brigid's life- her fearlessness, her determination, her sense of justice, her integrity and her desire to spread the Good News. Pupils and staff very much enjoyed this assembly as all of our children sang along. Thank you to all the staff of P4/5 for this wonderful assembly.
As St. Brigid's feast day draws to a close, we wish all our friends, families and community, every blessing from Mary of the Gael. St. Brigid pray for us.
