EA Chairperson celebrates the success of St. Brigid's Summer Scheme

20th Jul 2021

EA Chairperson Mr Barry Mulholland visited St. Brigid's P.S Summer Scheme in Mayogall.  Mr Mulholland is an Art Major and his first task was to choose his favourite painting, of the children's compositions during Summer Scheme.  Under the tutelage of Mrs Susie Kuczogi the children used oils on canvas to create a series of paintings.  The themes were: 'Boats on the Bann,' 'Houses on the Hill' or 'Morning Meadows.'  Parents had the opportunity to view the Art Exhibition in the school assembly hall and the comments were highly favourable.

Mr Mulholland spent some time judging the high quality artwork and eventually came to a decision of his personal favourite.  Daithi Strathern's 'Boats on the Bann' was judged to be a winner, due to the textures and layers within the painting.

The children were presented with their graduation certificates by Mr Mulholland and Mrs O'Kane.  The Principal informed the Chairperson that the 2021 Summer Scheme had been a huge success due to the input of the highly talented staff in St. Brigid's.  The children had the opportunities to partake in Drama, ICT, Art, Music, Mental Health and Well-being, Outdoor Play and Classroom Activities in Literacy and Numeracy.

Mrs O'Kane commended all the staff; Mrs O'Hara, Miss Heron, Amanda Mc Mullan, Anne Hegarty, Kate Quigley, Susie Kuczogi, Johann Rainey, Caoimhe Mulholland and Mary Mc Eldowney on their hard work and dedication to making this Summer Scheme such a success.

On behalf of the NI Education Authority, Mr Mulholland thanked all the staff for making a positive difference in the lives of these children during such a difficult period.  He commended the staff on their innovative and creative activities during the Summer Scheme.  He was impressed by the children's accounts of their enjoyment and how much they had learned during the three week Summer Scheme.  Whilst the DE Summer Schemes were not designed as 'catch up' he acknowledged the work of St. Brigid's staff who designed bespoke programmes to meet the needs of individual children in Literacy and Numeracy.

Presentations were made to Mr Mulholland by Aleisha and Tom whilst, Charlie presented a bouquet to Mrs Mulholland.  The Chairperson of the Education Authority for NI, expressed his gratitude to the Governors, staff and children of St. Brigid's for this very positive chance to see Summer Schemes at their best and wished the school and the children every success in the future.
