Holy Week in St. Brigid’s
It has been a very busy week in St Brigid’s PS in the lead up to our Easter vacation.
In addition to the wonderful Primary 6 Assembly, which reinforced the true meaning of Easter, we enjoyed lots of Easter fun with our Easter Egg Hunt organised by our very effective school council. Following this the School Council organised a non-uniform day when everyone wore blue and yellow and raised funds for the Ukrainian appeal. The generosity of our families and staff raised £420 which will be forwarded to Ukraine within days.
In addition our Primary 7 Easter Egg raffle raised an astonishing £1139.20 for Fr Neil Magill’s missionary work.
Fr Neil has messaged the school stating:-
“I am still in disbelief at this huge amount of money which I will transfer to Myanmar. Please convey my heartfelt thanks to everyone. This huge amount is a sign of the care and generosity of the good people of Lavey and will provide rice and basic needs to the suffering, especially the children who are living in fear of the war and in hunger. They will be happy and I am so consoled that they will have food. Thank you so much.”
So on behalf of those less fortunate, in both Asia and Europe, we thank all those who supported our charity appeals this Lenten season.
As Lent is coming to an end, our Primary 7 pupils led the Stations of the Cross in Our Lady of Mercy Church on Spy Wednesday. In a very moving ceremony led by Miss Oonagh McAlister (student teacher) a number of P7 pupils told the story of the Passion from Mary’s point of view accompanied by music from school staff Mr Sean Scullion and Miss Kate Quigley.
Thank you to all the staff and children who have made this an extra special Easter for everyone.
