Primary 7's portraits appear on The View!
Following the visit of Education Minister Peter Weir earlier in the week, our Primary 7's have now gone viral on Twitter! Mr Weir tweeted a picture of himself standing in front of their NI Assembly Display and what excitement it has brought during this pandemic. Our school Twitter page has been flushed with wonderful comments, retweets and well wishes and thankfully the ministers haven't been too upset by our drawings.
The children received an official email from Finance Minister Conor Murphy expressing his well wishes and saying just how wonderful it was that they are interested in Politics and how the Assembly works here in Northern Ireland. He also let the children in on a little secret which brought great pride to all of us here in the Parish of Lavey. He told us that whilst Martin Mc Guinness was in office he had numerous pictures of all the famous dignitaries he had met in his lifetime but taking pride of place behind his desk was a picture of Derry Captain Henry Downey lifting the Sam Maguire in '93'.
As well as a letter from the Minister our pupils had their artwork shown on live TV. BBC One's programme 'The View' mentioned the pupils and made a small montage of their work. If you missed it you can view it below or catch it on the iPlayer. Radio Ulster presenters Chris Buckler and Joel Mc Taggart challenged our children to draw portraits of BBC presenters so keep an eye to Newsline tonight and you may catch a peek!
