Sports Day!!
In our school diary we had planned to hold our Sports Day on Friday 8th May. So staff believe that we should continue with that plan and have a virtual sports day!
Your first job is to find a nice flat track to run on and then you need to measure it out! Hmm that is going to be tricky!
Foundation Stage (P1 and P2) need a 40 metre track
Key Stage 1 (P3 and P4) need a 60 metre track and
Key Stage 2 (P5-7) need a 100 metre track.
Let us know how you managed to measure your running track........ No cheating!
Next you need to start practising. Mr Doherty has created some worksheets to help you. We want to see who can do the most star jumps, sit ups, skips etc in 30 seconds. So as well as working on your Literacy and Numeracy, you need to work on your physical fitness this week too.
On Friday (weather permitting) you will do three traditional races at the same time as your classmates. Mum or dad will time you and immediately email your time to the teacher in charge of your race. We will then give you the results of our top three finishers in each class. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
The three races are sprint, egg and spoon (wooden spoon and an egg) and sack race (an old pillowcase or sack). Each race is on the distance for your age group.
Our first race will be the sprint, with Primary 1 girls’ race at 10am, followed by P1 boys at 10.05. After each class does their sprint, we will have egg and spoon and then the sack race. We hope to be finished by lunch time and since we can’t send Mr Whippy to all your homes, we do hope that there is some ice-cream to enjoy from your freezer. ๐ฆ
Lockdown is getting more difficult for all of us, and Sports Day is normally a very big community gathering in Lavey with past pupils and extended family attending. So although we cannot have that social gathering this year, we will definitely be together in spirit! ๐งก๐ค
For the first time in years we are going to have staff race! We will let you know when we are ready to begin and we hope to hear our pupils cheering on their own teacher ...... Will we hear the cheers as far away as Desertmartin, Randalstown or even in Greencastle?
We have been so impressed by all your efforts in the Spring Walk and the Bake Off, now we want to see how you all get on in Virtual Sports Day 2020. ๐โ๏ธ๐โ๏ธ
