Today in Our Lady of Mercy Church we had a moving tribute to Fr O’Donnell on his first anniversary.
His anniversary Mass was concelebrated by Fr Graham and Fr P. Doherty with readings and offertory procession from the O’Donnell family members and music from Una Mc Gill.
In the homily Fr Graham spoke of Fr O’Donnell’s love of Erin’s Own and Derry football and indeed we believe that Fr O’Donnell’s prayers helped our past pupils and their teammates find energy and strength in extra time against Donegal.
Well done to the Derry Minors for all their efforts, they have a great future ahead. To the senior team as Fr O’Donnell would say “onwards and upwards”.
The sun shone as his grave was blessed, with the haunting music from Una filling the Lavey air.
Fr O’Donnell, true friend and stalwart advocate of St Brigid’s School; may he always be our guiding light and with St Brigid may he pray for us and all the children we serve.
